Almost every aristocrat in the world seemed to have one of these monstrous 'wagons of the elite.

This is the Windsor's royal carriage and it weighs 4 tons. This is the one we in America thought ridiculous. There are others of this model including this-

Russian Royal Carriage that was Catherine's in the mid and late 1700's. It's found at the Hermitage in St. Petersburg.

Even Thailand has one of these carriages.

Then the Shah of Iran had to have at least one. I never expected to find in an internet search that they were still all working. I was expecting to find some references but this is outstanding. Like I say, they were sturdy.
